Workshops

Workshop: Introduction to LLM and simple application of AI technology in App development

Date: October 23, 2025 (Thur)
Time: 4:00pm – 5:30pm
Venue: N102, Lo Hui Kit San Building (Block N), Yuen Campus, The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong

To ensure effective participation, you are advised to bring your own laptop and complete the following setup before the workshop:

  1. Install Android Studio
    Download and install the latest version of Android Studio from the official website.
  2. Device Setup for App Testing (Please prepare at least one of the following options)
    • Option 1: Set Up an Emulator
      Configure at least one emulator, such as Pixel 9 with API Level 36 (approximate download size: 1.8GB). It is recommended to set this up before the workshop, as downloading the emulator system can take considerable time.
    • Option 2: Use a Physical Android Device
      Connect an Android device with USB File Transfer enabled for testing purposes.

Competition Details

Topic
  • Design and implement an Android mobile app for personalized meal planning
Key Features
  • Calorie Information: Display calorie information for a specific list of foods.
  • Smart Diet Planner:
    • Users can input personal data: weight, height, gender, physical activity level, and food preferences.
    • Generates meal plans tailored to user requirements.
    • Aims to maximize user satisfaction with meal choices.
Technology Note
  • Incorporation of large language models (LLMs) is optional for app development.
Selection Process
  • Approximately 5 teams will be selected to enter the final event.
  • The final event is tentatively scheduled for late December 2025 at HSUHK.
Final Presentation
  • Each selected team will present their systems, discussing their problem-solving approaches and human-centered design.

Problem Specification

Eligibility
  • Secondary school students
    • Each school can form at most 2 teams
    • Each team consists of at most 5 students who are in S1-S6
    • Each student can be in at most 1 team
Prizes
  • 1 Gold Award – HK$10,000 cash prize and a trophy cup
  • 1 Silver Award – HK$5,000 cash prize
  • 1 Bronze Award – HK$2,000 cash prize
  • 2 Merit Awards – HK$1,000 cash prize each

  1. Functional objective (Refer to the Problem Specification)
  2. Human-centered design
  3. Resource utilization
Deliverable
Submissions must be made via our competition website on or before the submission deadline:
  • 1st Round – Product submission and a document explaining the design principle, the use method, etc.
  • 2nd Round – On-site presentation and demonstration of prototypes from the finalists
The finalist teams must attend the final event and conduct presentation tentatively scheduled for late December 2025.
